De La Espada’s founders, Fátima de la Espada and Luís de Oliveira, came to furniture almost by accident — a family carpentry workshop in Spain that became a design house shown in London, New York and Milan. Their approach has never changed: honest joinery, solid timber, and a roster of collaborators — from Luca Nichetto to Anthony Guerrée — invited to draw pieces that respect the material as much as the form. Production stays in-house, at their own solar-powered workshop on Portugal’s Silver Coast.
The Solo bar stool is upholstered in a brown natural-grain leather on legs in Danish oiled oak, also available in ash or walnut, keeping the same pared-back, unaccessorised approach as the Solo dining chair but raised to counter height. Its leather seat is left plain rather than piped or detailed, in keeping with the collection’s understated character.

De La Espada represents true luxury: creativity rather than imitation; extensive research and development; traditional methods that are in scarce supply; a singular aesthetic point-of-view; and no compromise when it comes to materials or effort.
