The Angel side table by Daniel Hayden is an eccentric, characterful side table taking the form of an abstracted angel. The exaggerated proportions and hand-carved, scalloped shape give the feel of a life-sized modelling clay miniature.
This side table is crafted from solid wood, a natural material that responds to temperature and humidity changes by expanding and contracting. Variations in grain, colour, and texture are inherent and predictable.
The idiosyncratic, playful nature of Daniel Hayden’s work stems from his interest in the way in which shapes and proportions can be manipulated to create the impression of personalities within inanimate everyday objects. His design process typically involves sketching until a ‘character’ begins to appear, and then exaggerating the elements bringing out that character until it feels whole.
