Inspired by the classical art of fluting found in architectural masterpieces and decorative arts, the Underline Coffee Table by Hegi Design Studio is a testament to the timeless elegance of this design technique. Fluting, characterized by shallow grooves along a surface, not only enhances the play of light on a column but also imparts a sense of perfect roundness that elevates the overall aesthetic. In the tradition of Greek architects who revered rhythm as a fundamental design element, fluting was a favored choice for adorning buildings and temples, contributing to an enhanced sense of rhythm. The technique was ingeniously employed in columns to create an illusion of increased slimness, lightness, and elegance.
Design duo, and real-life couple Nelli and Juri Hegi founded their eponymous studio after their move to Australia. Originally from Kazakhstan, and having previously lived in Germany, they cherish their European background that enables them to understand heritage and authenticity. Through their families, they both experienced and understand that furniture should be passed from one generation to the next as good design is made to last.
