The Bubble Wall Lamp carries the name of Maison Leleu, the French Art Deco house Jules Leleu founded in 1910 and that once dressed the ocean liner Normandie, the Elysee Palace and the United Nations lounge in Geneva. Revived today by great-granddaughter Alexia Leleu, the maison works from its own archive, translating drawings by Jules, Jean and Paule Leleu into pieces for contemporary interiors.
Three hand-blown glass globes, linked by a braided cable and mounted on a polished brass base, give the Bubble wall lamp its cascading, asymmetrical form, a direct echo of an oversized chandelier photographed in the Leleu archives hanging in a grand reception room. The same materials, glass, cord and bronze, have simply been rescaled and rebalanced, capturing the exact moment the maison’s design language was shifting from Art Deco toward the freer lines of Art Moderne.
