For more than three hundred years, the Mobilier National has overseen the furnishing of France’s palaces, ministries and embassies, a role that has made it one of the most exacting arbiters of design excellence in the world. Its annual acquisition campaign is a rare honor: only a select group of contemporary designers see their work inducted into this living archive of French craftsmanship, standing permanently alongside pieces once created for kings, presidents and the state itself.

Jules Levasseur, an ESAD Reims graduate now based in Semur-en-Auxois, built his reputation on reinventing the codes of industrial materials in collaboration with manufacturers, and his Table S grew directly out of a partnership with the metalworking house Petrus. Limited to eight pieces, its top is cut from perforated, corrugated steel finished in epoxy paint and available in bespoke colors, resting on slender steel tube legs, an industrial material made to feel almost textile in its rippling, perforated surface.
