Paradisoterrestre revives the Italian design lineage of Dino Gavina, the entrepreneur behind Flos, Gavina and Simon, whose house drew on Goethe’s Naturphilosophie.

Designed by Pierre Gonalons for Paradisoterrestre, the Italian house founded in 1983 by Dino Gavina and revived a decade after his death, The Other Side rug plays a trompe-l’oeil trick: it reads as a pleated carpet fixed mid-fold, its reverse side more colourful than its front — a tribute to Italian Baroque theatricality and Surrealism, two ideas Gavina held dear.

Each rug is handcrafted by skilled artisans who master ancestral techniques such as hand knotting, weaving, and tufting. Due to its handmade nature, there may be slight variations in size and colour, and the patterns may adjust proportionally when the rug is scaled to different sizes. Colours are subject to sample approval and colours shown may vary with lighting and environment.
