Sandra Benhamou traces her instinct for atmosphere to years spent working behind the scenes on film sets before she turned, self-taught, to interior design. She mixes stone, limewashed walls, reclaimed wood, linen, terracotta, brass, mirror, elm, cork and raffia the way a set designer would layer textures for a scene, trusting instinct over formula, so her interiors and objects read like stills from a film that hasn’t been made yet.
The Mia Sofa extends the armchair’s polished stainless steel veneer frame and rectilinear quilting across a longer seat, upholstered here in Pierre Frey’s cream Teddy Mohair for a softer, more tactile finish than the collection’s usual velvets. Benhamou designed the whole Ginger line around the elegance of a 1970s American bar, and the sofa’s quilted bolsters and precise stitching bring a touch of that lounge-like formality into a piece meant for everyday living. Bespoke fabrics remain available, but the mohair version was chosen to soften Ginger’s usual sharpness into something warmer.
