Background
Born in Montargis in 1959, Christophe Pillet spent his childhood moving across France before studying at the Villa Arson School of Decorative Arts in Nice. Drawn early to the creative vitality of Milan, he continued his education at the Domus Academy, where he immersed himself in the experimental design culture of the 1980s and created a lamp for the Memphis collection. After returning to Paris, he joined Philippe Starck’s agency for five years before founding his own studio in 1993, the same year he was named Designer of the Year at the Paris Furniture Fair.
Signature Style
“I don’t seek the extraordinary, but to reveal what is beautiful and moving in the ordinary.” This statement perfectly captures Christophe Pillet’s approach to design. His work is defined by clarity, elegance, and restraint, favoring simplicity over excess. Through clean lines, refined materials, and carefully balanced proportions, he creates objects and interiors that combine functionality with quiet sophistication. Whether designing furniture, interiors, or scenography, Pillet approaches each project with a sensitivity to atmosphere, light, and texture that lends his work a timeless quality.

Over the course of his career, Pillet has collaborated with leading international brands including Cappellini, Driade, Ceccotti, Serralunga, Lacoste, Lancel, and Jean-Claude Jitrois. In 2000, le Mobilier national commissioned him to design furniture for the official Bastille Day grandstand in Paris. His work extends across hotels, boutiques, furniture collections, and artistic direction projects in Europe, the United States, and Japan. During his time as Artistic Director of Écart International, he also developed new furniture collections that reinforced his reputation for timeless, contemporary design.
