Background

Design duo, and real-life couple Nelli and Juri Hegi founded their eponymous studio after their move to Australia. Originally from Kazakhstan, and having previously lived in Germany, they cherish their European background that enables them to understand heritage and authenticity. Through their families, they both experienced and understand that furniture should be passed from one generation to the next as good design is made to last. This same attitude is applied to the designs they create today – quality furniture with a contemporary feel, inspirational and unique, that will stand the test of time. Today, Sydney-based Hegi is a luxury brand regarded as the benchmark and frontrunner of “Made in Australia” collectible furniture design.

Signature Style

With a contemporary aesthetic focusing on classical European sensibility, Hegi finds its roots in creative, timeless, and playful designs, transforming high-quality materials into unforgettable collectible pieces for high-end environments. This approach highlights the significance of the ‘experience factor’ and the ‘story behind’ each design. The brand’s ethos is based on co-creation, sustainability, honesty, and exceptional craftsmanship. Nelli and Juri believe that furniture is both art and an investment. Every piece is made to order, allowing them to minimize environmental impact and connect with clients on a personal level.

Showstoppers

The ‘Sphere’ collection, designed during a bout of creative momentum in a time of unrest. During the numerous lockdowns, Nelli and Juri spent a significant amount of time in Gerringong, an inspiring yet hidden town on the Australian South Coast. The Sphere collection is inspired by spherical architecture, notably the Tianjin Binhai Library in Tianjin, China, and the Nagoya City Science Museum in Nagoya, Japan. These stunning structures are proof that the timeless shape has never lost its allure with architects and the world at large.
