Stories Exhibitions House Of Today

Invisible Collection partners with House of Today for a unique showcase of Lebanese talent: An eclectic selection of pieces revealing a new generation of designers on the rise.

The week leading to Frieze and Pad London has been an intense one at Invisible Collection’s gallery in Marylebone, with the team working relentlessly to stage a beautiful exhibition of striking designs from House of Today, a non-profit organisation whose mission is to expand the reach of Lebanese designers beyond local and regional audiences. The carefully curated display of pieces is a true testament to the diversity, creativity and excellence of Lebanese design.
Founded over ten years ago at a time when the design scene was fragmented throughout Lebanon, House of Today strives to cultivate a sustainable design ecosystem that transcends borders. The non-profit organisation, founded by Cherine Magrabi Tayeb, scouts emerging talent in contemporary design, looking for designers who are keen to work with artisans and use locally-sourced materials.

This approach encourages the reutilisation of resources within the community, reduces the environmental impact across the supply chain and supports the economic livelihood of local craftspeople, all while fostering a culture of sustainable design in the country.
Set apart from the design scene on a global scale, Lebanon is a place of cultural diversity, with strong influences from the Middle East and Mediterranean. This diversity can be seen in the eclectic and varied aesthetics of Lebanese design and the growing pursuit of individuality which is reflected in their designer’s unique work. The captivating thought-provoking installation includes works from designers David & Nicholas and Stephanie Moussallem, as well as pieces from ceramists Hala Matta and Souraya Haddad, and creations from architects and designers Fadi Yachoui and Roula Salmaoun.

“In a world where individuality and self-expression are celebrated, the ability to harmonize diverse styles within a single space is both an art and a testament to the versatility of design,” says Magrabi Tayeb. “The designers on show at Invisible Collection have in common the capacity to design objects that fit eclectic interiors. They understand how to bridge the gaps between contrasting styles, finding the common threads that tie everything together. Whether it’s a piece of furniture, a lighting fixture, or a decorative accent, these objects are the elements that transform a space into an expression of art.”

“Contemporary Lebanese aesthetics are rich in storytelling and reflect the resilience and creativity of a nation which has faced so much hardship. The opportunity for Invisible Collection to work with House of Today who provide such an important platform for designers in Lebanon is something we are passionate about. The result is a showcase where pieces of the utmost quality and design are harmoniously gathered together, an ensemble of elements that have transformed our London Gallery into a true expression of art,” adds our co-founder Anna Zaoui. Highlights from the exhibition include furniture pieces by renowned design duo David & Nicolas, a selection of softly undulating seating by Fadi Yachoui, and a striking ensemble of ceramic artworks by Souraya Haddad. Elegantly displayed throughout the gallery’s ground floor, the designs are on view until December.
