In 1959, Pierre Chapo designed a bed as a special commission for the writer Samuel Beckett. He wittily named it “Godot,” in reference to the play, Waiting for Godot. L 01 became its name in the Chapo nomenclature and and it can be considered the starting point for the first Chapo collection, which was officially presented in early 1963. The L01 bed is memorable for its taut, sober, simple lines, its movable bedhead, and the box joints at the corners of the frame, the only decorative element, and one which would often be copied. It can be used as a bed, a bench or a daybed.
