CSLB Studio was founded in Paris by Caroline Sarkozy, formerly of Andrée Putman’s studio, and Laurent Bourgois. Together they design interiors and furniture rooted in a refined, classical ‘à la française’ elegance, forever in dialogue with the great names of twentieth-century French design.
The Philippe Desk, designed by CSLB Studio, reinterprets the formal universe of architects Frank Lloyd Wright and Walter Gropius through a material Caroline Sarkozy and Laurent Bourgois hold especially dear: carved oak. Its clean, rectilinear structure nods to the rigor of early twentieth-century modernism while remaining unmistakably a piece of French cabinetmaking.
The desk’s legs and the edge of its tabletop are detailed in hand-gouged oak, a textural signature that runs through much of CSLB’s furniture and softens what could otherwise be a purely functional object. Solid and grounded, the Philippe Desk is built as a workspace substantial enough to anchor a study, yet refined enough to hold its own in a formal interior.
Trained at Parsons School of Design in New York, Caroline Sarkozy gained extensive experience working for the exacting Andrée Putman. A nomadic childhood between Asia, the Middle East and the USA, gives her a panoramic approach to influences and styles. Laurent Bourgois graduated from the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris and has over the years focused on Architecture and Interior Architecture projects in the private sector. Together, they have a refreshing take on classical style and absolute elegance achieved through exquisite “A la française” craftsmanship, a trademark of their interiors, which is appreciated by their private international clientele.
