Oud Architecture is a Paris studio founded by Marie-Sarah Burckel and Josselin Berteloot, designing living spaces for private and professional clients in France and abroad. Their furniture collections extend the same architectural thinking into freestanding objects, each one produced in a strictly limited edition.
The Kephri Desk takes its name from the ancient Egyptian scarab god of rebirth and transformation, a fitting reference for Oud Architecture’s practice of pushing familiar materials into unexpected new forms, produced here in a strictly limited edition of eight pieces plus one artist’s proof.
Its surface in smoked eucalyptus is embroidered by hand, a technique more often associated with textiles than woodworking, set against a frame of heat-patinated steel whose deep, uneven tones look almost mineral. The combination of stitched wood and fire-treated metal gives the desk a ritual, almost alchemical presence, as though the material itself had been transformed rather than simply shaped.
