Francesco Balzano designs the way an architect thinks: in volumes, thresholds and light. Named among AD France’s 100 Best Designers and winner of the Villa Medici Prize from the French Academy in Rome, the Paris-based designer draws on a childhood spent between Venice, Rome and Florence to give his furniture, produced through SATTIO Studio, the weight and calm of monuments rather than mere objects.
The Murano side table brings the collection’s homage to Venetian glassmaking to a piece scaled for a bedside or a sofa’s edge, its opaque resin surface, signed and numbered in colourway FB20/04, worked to the matte density of glass sandblasted and rounded by lagoon water. Balzano treats each surface as if it had been shaped by the sea rather than cast in a mould.
