Naples has a long tradition of shaping flowers in clay, dating back to the opening of the Real Fabbrica di Capodimonte in 1743. The irises of Laclaux’s Iris Chandelier draw on this heritage, each petal pressed thin, ruffled and hand-painted with violet and white streaks around a yellow beard. Pink magnolia buds and clusters of small white blossoms grow among them.

The flowers are arranged within a framework of steel stems, entwined with coiled-wire tendrils and leaves cut from sheet metal. Each leaf is finely veined and lacquered in a deep, glossy green, with hints of bronze showing at the edges. Mottled glass-paste corollas rise from leafy cups, while a pierced ceramic globe at the centre and a matching finial below soften the light, casting a delicate, dappled glow.

With its generous scale, the chandelier is best suited to a stair hall, a spacious dining room or a high-ceilinged orangery.
