The Moucharabieh Table by Pierre-Louis Gerlier is a fascinating design about perception and playfulness. What adults draw on their own scale, children transform on their own scale. What might serve as an ordinary object for an adult, can become a space for a child’s imagination and observation. Under the table is the ideal place to observe the world of adults who gather there to talk and make decisions: Moucharabieh is an observation post where the child can watch and listen to the adult world without being seen. The legs of the table unfold to create a cocoon where only the child can take refuge, hide and observe. The laminated mdf tabletop rests on two fixed arched legs. Three thin panels are fixed to each leg and can be opened out to create spaces. All the legs and panels are made of metal with a perforated sheet infill. The superimposition of perforated sheets along with color play, create a kinetic, visual effect regardless of their positioning.
