Behind the Mad Sconce stands Sarah Chirazi, a Franco-Senegalese designer whose work reads like a multi-act scenography, drawing on the Art Deco furniture of her Dakar childhood, inherited Senegalese craft, and a wink of humor that surfaces in even her most classical forms.
The Mad sconce takes its silhouette from 19th-century carved wooden tableware made by the Nguni people, a form Sarah Chirazi first sculpts and engraves in wax as though it were still timber before casting it in bronze. Available in gold or natural black finish, the fixture keeps the tool marks and grain-like texture of that original wood-carving gesture, so the light it casts seems to fall from something far older than metal.
