When Art Meets Design

Stories Galleries When Art Meets Design

Invisible Collection presents a groundbreaking project at the intersection of Art & Design in collaboration with Docent, the first AI-powered mobile application for art enthusiasts and collectors.

Given that our mantra has always been ‘Design is Art,’ the time has come to carry this idea further by weaving unique artworks into the curated displays of our exceptional furniture pieces. We are thrilled to announce that Invisible Collection has joined forces with Docent for a unique collaboration aimed at offering new ways to discover and collect artworks in dialogue with contemporary design. This unprecedented collaboration builds bridges between renowned artists from the Docent community and the design visionaries of Invisible Collection, fostering an enlightening dialogue between contemporary art and exceptional design. The first chapter of this collaboration is being written at Invisible Collection New York, our gallery on the Upper East Side, where Docent presents a selection of artworks aligned with our new Thierry Lemaire solo show.

“We created Invisible Collection for discerning collectors worldwide who were seeking furniture offerings that matched the quality and uniqueness of their art collections. All of our talents design furniture with these clients and collectors in mind. It seemed only natural to bring these two worlds even closer, especially in New York, where there are so many great art collectors,” says our cofounder Isabelle Dubern-Mallevays. This ambitious project, committed to exploring contemporary tastes and sensibilities, will engage artworks with remarkable pieces of furniture, offering collectors a full immersion in a universe that resonates with their imagination and in which they can project themselves.

Founded just a couple of years ago by Hélène Nguyen Ban, Docent is the first AI-powered mobile application of its kind, with a proprietary algorithm that draws from a catalog of thousands of works from major galleries and international institutions. Thanks to countless parameters, it expands and simultaneously refines the search to present artworks that ultimately resonate with the collector’s taste and imagination, offering a precise artistic choice and a sense of discovery. In a nutshell, it is the first AI-powered art adviser that knows one’s taste better than one’s gallerist does.

The artworks on show at Invisible Collection New York were selected to complement Thierry Lemaire’s designs, bringing together the creative works of three distinguished female artists: Talita Zaragoza, Jenna Bitar, and Elisa Bertaglia. The paintings delve into the abstract exploration of materiality, reflecting on our interconnectedness with the world amidst rapid technological progress and environmental changes. These artists invite viewers to introspect on transformation, fragility, and the enduring essence of matter. Their work transcends technique, engaging with emotional resonance and intellectual discourse. In their studios, they dialogue with materials, bringing forth forms and narratives that highlight the ephemeral nature of existence. Blending seamlessly with Thierry Lemaire’s designs, the artworks offer a poetic journey of identity through abstraction. Each artist evokes memories of their personal journeys and environments, revealing intimate frescoes that resonate with profound depth and meaning.

Meanwhile, in Paris, Docent presents a completely different set of artworks to complement Marion Stora’s beautiful designs, now on view at Invisible Collection Paris. Titled “Warm Alchemy” the selected works tell a story of emotions conveyed through art. They examine our capacity to merge within specific atmospheres, whether they are liminal and meditative or esoteric and oneiric. In this serenely elegant display, the artists’ works engage in a dialogue with the delicate and sensual qualities of Marion Stora’s furniture. Highlights from the show include Victoire Inchauspé’s “And it was all yellow” (2023), an intriguing mix of organic elements (wax, mimosas, and fabric) that treats materials as though they are traces of memory. In this work, the almost milky ice in which the summer mimosa is frozen evokes the tenderness of a joyful moment, forever fixed in the artwork.
