Background
FAM is the Portuguese abbreviation for “Feito à Mão,” which means “Handmade”—a reference to the time and meticulous care invested in the creation of each piece. The intention of its founder, Ligia Guedes, is to promote Portuguese craftsmanship in a modern and contemporary way, adopting a more experimental and spontaneous approach that creates a confluence between craftsmanship, art, and design. Today, the studio operates as a collective of interior designers, graphic designers, photographers, artists, and, of course, artisans.
Signature Style
Committed to the simplicity of shapes and glazes inspired by nature, FAM’s creations are defined by the exploration of colors, organic forms, and the infinite possibilities that ceramics offer. The ceramic workshop, located in the Porto area, is a place suspended in time. The hammer, the tile molds, and other tools bear the marks of their past, as though nothing had changed for years. It is precisely this connection to meaningful tools from the past that FAM strives to embrace.
Showstoppers
The Ondas Table, whose story is recounted by Ligia Guedes: “The FAM adventure began with this tile, so I have a special affection for it. It represents our journey of ups and downs, as if carried by the waves (Ondas) that have brought us here.”
