Invisible Collection Los Angeles

Stories Destinations Invisible Collection Los Angeles

Invisible Collection goes West (Hollywood), bringing to the city of angels the fresh French aesthetic that collectors and design enthusiasts have been eager to discover.

Invisible Collection debuts its residency in Los Angeles partnering with Phillips. The opening is fittingly timed to Frieze Week, when collectors and art lovers from around the globe gather in the city, the perfect opportunity to connect with a diverse and discerning audience in situ. Located in the vibrant design scene of West Hollywood, Phillips’ distinctive grey concrete building is the ideal setting for a showcase of iconic furniture and lighting staged to complement the artworks on display. Following Invisible Collection’s previous pop-ups at Phillips in the Hamptons and Aspen, this new residency in LA further cements the bond between the two companies. With its legacy in connecting the curious with the extraordinary, Phillips is thus expanding its repertoire and reach, inviting Invisible Collection to bring its curated vision to connoisseurs and collectors alike. The inaugural exhibition is open to the public throughout Frieze Week and will then be on view by appointment when the fair concludes. A year-long of rotating exhibitions will follow.

The designs will be shown in juxtaposition with Fully Bloomed, the art group show curated by Phillips and Art for Change. The artists invited to this exhibition confront and contribute to the move toward sustainability by exploring nature, the animal kingdom, humanity and the environment. The show includes original works by up-and-coming artists; mainly large-format paintings that catch the eye for their vibrant, pictorial richness and their compelling subtext. This is the first time that Art for Change presents a show of such magnitude in scale and scope, underscoring its commitment to making a positive impact through art.  In conjunction with the exhibition, Art for Change and Phillips will plant 1,000 trees to help counter the CO2 emissions produced by the art industry. As a B-Corp certified company we are thrilled to be part of this initiative.

Tuning into the city’s dynamic design scene and overall cool vibe, we handpicked an array of signature pieces from our iconic roster. From subtle nods to LA glitz & glam through dazzling objects – the fabulous pink gold disco balls handmade by Studio MTX, one of Chanel’s specialty creator, or the exquisite Fun Guy side tables, mushroom-like designs in gilded bronze with hand-chiseled motifs – to mix-use furniture that speaks to the Angeleno indoor-outdoor lifestyle, we played into the cool, laid-back mood that reigns supreme in West Hollywood. We tied into the spirit of Frieze with some limited-edition collectible pieces, including works by Pierre Bonnefille and Minjae Kim. The meeting of diverse styles that defines LA inspires the curation for the entire setting. The Monte Sofa by Garcé & Dimofski is all about carrying ideas from the Swedish Grace movement into the 21st century with a chic French twist; or the strange beauty of the asymmetrical Fred chairs, each hand-carved leg different from the other. Irregular shapes define most of the pieces on show resonating with the design forward-thinking that has always influenced LA.

Our iconic designs are already in celebrities’ homes in Los Angeles, and we work with some of the most renowned decorators in California. However, nothing can replace human connection. We are thrilled to establish a new presence in LA, just as we have in other capitals. We begin by appointing Phillips’ VIP Room with our inaugural exhibition, the first of many, as we bring our signature French aesthetic to the West Coast. Invisible Collection at Phillips will be open for viewing throughout Frieze Week.
