KOZMIC BLUES

Stories Editor's Pick KOZMIC BLUES

Invisible Collection presents KOZMIC BLUES, an exhibition by Sandra Benhamou where the fantasized memories of an endless summer seem to linger on, conjured by a rare mix of styles.

To mark Paris Design Week, Invisible Collection has invited interior architect and designer Sandra Benhamou to take over its Rive Gauche gallery and stage Kozmic Blues, an original exhibition inspired by Janis Joplin’s eponymous album. This is the second time the French designer has collaborated with Invisible Collection, after a successful solo show in London this past spring.

Bringing with her a tender kind of melancholy — the kind that comes with the end of summer — and sweet memories, Sandra Benhamou sets the stage for an immersive experience balancing whimsy and sophistication. Patterns, cultures, textiles, and colors freely intertwine. The décor is rich and warm, imbued with references from that special decade between the ’60s and ’70s in the US. It is alive, lived-in, and still waiting to be lived. At its heart: echoes of blues riffs and traces of flower power. “I just want to feel as much as I can,” sings Janis Joplin — a “call” to which Sandra responds with a romantic, rock-infused score of recent creations, vintage pieces, and contemporary artworks.
The setting invites the eye to wander through different areas of the gallery and experience each distinct mood. Pieces from Benhamou’s signature Dolly collection stand out, dressed in Métaphores or Dedar fabric specially selected for this exhibition. Together, the bench, ottoman and stool — flanked by oversized cushions — evoke the laid-back atmosphere of an afterparty.

As a counterpoint, the ultra-sophisticated Leon bar channels memories of glamorous social gatherings (more Hollywood than Woodstock), its white lacquer and polished steel finish with inner brass and smoked glass whispering See you in Vegas, baby… (after all, the Leon bar was inspired by Scorsese’s movie Casino). The undulating silhouette of the Gae sofa anchors the space, with its generous proportions inviting warm conviviality. On the floor: a custom-made rug from Atelier Diurne and a traditional Mauritanian rug in leather and palm tree fibers — one can easily picture musicians sitting on it and jamming until the end of the night. A different atmosphere permeates another section of the exhibition, where the sculptural Kate dining table, paired with vintage chairs, suggests a more formal kind of gathering. The entire décor is dotted with a variety of objects encompassing diverse expressions of savoir-faire: from the ultra-sleek Puiforcat silver to the delicate handcrafted ceramics by Manufacture de Couleuvre. Last but not least, for this special design week, the gallery’s lower floor has been completely restyled and transformed into an “ephemeral” museum of iconic chairs. The most emblematic designs from our collection are presented in a dynamic installation: take a seat, literally, and enjoy!

Expanding its Paris Design Week programme, Invisible Collection also unveils an exclusive, by-invitation-only apartment decorated entirely with its iconic designs. Nestled in an 18th-century building overlooking Boulevard Saint-Germain, the space reflects the brand’s quintessential French aesthetic while exploring another facet of the same artistic vision. Ultimately, it expresses a contemporary take on interior design — a curated ensemble of collectible pieces brought together with coherence and intent. In addition to Kozmic Blues, Invisible Collection will host the first edition of “Rue Amélie”, the first of our Artisanal Intelligence programme, created in collaboration with Duvelleroy and Métiers Rares, to celebrate the heritage of French savoir-faire.
Kozmic Blues opens on 3 September and runs through to the end of December 2025.

Sandra Benhamou

Sandra Benhamou launched her design studio in 2010 after leaving behind her career in films. Her passion for movies influences her well-honed sense for beautiful settings, and her art of mixing and matching objects, styles and periods. Sandra dreams up sophisticated interiors that combine contemporary art and design, vintage furniture and custom pieces. Furniture from the 1970s is paired with contemporary photographs and works by Italian artists such as Gio Ponti and Carlo Scarpa—both of whom Sandra Benhamou holds in great esteem. She is an art-collector and an expert in the art market. Her keen, curious eye helps her creating the perfect blend of tension and intrigue: she brings a singular, anti-conformist narrative to the interiors she decorates, whether it’s a luxurious Parisian apartment, a home in Normandy or a high-end residential project.
