Sandra Benhamou traces her instinct for atmosphere to years spent working behind the scenes on film sets before she turned, self-taught, to interior design. She mixes stone, limewashed walls, reclaimed wood, linen, terracotta, brass, mirror, elm, cork and raffia the way a set designer would layer textures for a scene, trusting instinct over formula, so her interiors and objects read like stills from a film that hasn’t been made yet.
Named Dolly, this armchair from the Ginger collection carries a mermaid-like silhouette Benhamou shaped to feel plush yet dramatic, upholstered here in Yarn Collective’s mustok-toned Marci fabric with alternate options in Dedar’s Vladimiro and Marci velvet or Pierre Frey’s Teddy Mohair. A former film-set professional, Benhamou pays homage through Dolly to 1970s glitz, from Studio 54 to the back rooms of Scorsese’s Casino, translating that cinematic glamour into bold, sensual curves. Originally imagined in velvet, it is now offered exclusively through us in jacquard and bouclé, softening the drama without losing it.
Sandra Benhamou launched her design studio in 2010 after leaving behind her career in films. Her passion for movies influences her well-honed sense for beautiful settings, and her art of mixing and matching objects, styles and periods. Sandra dreams up sophisticated interiors that combine contemporary art and design, vintage furniture and custom pieces. Furniture from the 1970s is paired with contemporary photographs and works by Italian artists such as Gio Ponti and Carlo Scarpa—both of whom Sandra Benhamou holds in great esteem. She is an art-collector and an expert in the art market. Her keen, curious eye helps her creating the perfect blend of tension and intrigue: she brings a singular, anti-conformist narrative to the interiors she decorates, whether it’s a luxurious Parisian apartment, a home in Normandy or a high-end residential project.
