Pierre Chareau belonged to a generation of French designers who saw no contradiction between craft and industry, and Galbé Chair is a quiet demonstration of that belief. He paired the raw honesty of hand-worked metal and stone with materials chosen for how they behaved under light, treating each piece as a small architectural gesture rather than a decorative afterthought.

The Galbé chair takes its name from its curved, or ‘galbé’, backrest in walnut, set above armrests and legs inlaid in Macassar ebony marquetry and upholstered here in fossil-toned canvas from Nobilis. The contrast between the pale wood of the back and the dark, striped ebony below is pure Chareau, a designer who treated the meeting of two materials as an opportunity rather than a compromise.
