With Lounge Chair 1926, Pierre Chareau signs far more than a piece of furniture: it is a fragment of the singular vision of a designer who believed every object should extend the space it inhabits. Trained first as an engineer, Chareau approached furniture the way he approached his buildings, as a question of light, structure and proportion, refusing the ornamental clutter of his era in favour of forms that feel inevitable rather than decorative.

Dated to 1926, this lounge chair is upholstered here in Eden Algues fabric from Métaphores with sides finished in monkey-nut cotton velvet from Rose Uniacke, and comes in left and right-hand modules that can be arranged singly or combined into a small sectional. It captures Chareau at a moment when he was already thinking about furniture as a flexible system rather than a fixed, one-off object.
