Louis Victor Tabouret, who joined the family business in the late 19th century, drew inspiration from 16th and 17th-century royal silversmiths, enhancing the brand’s repertoire with elegant silver hollowware. In the mid-20th century, Jean Puiforcat revolutionized silverwork with his Art Deco designs, characterized by architectural lines and functional elegance, eschewing unnecessary ornamentation. This avant-garde approach continues to define Puiforcat’s aesthetic. Today, Puiforcat is celebrated for its blend of tradition and creativity, crafting the timeless classics of tomorrow while paying homage to its storied past.

Background

Since 1820, the House of Puiforcat has epitomized the art of silversmithing, blending tradition and innovation. Founded by Joseph Baptiste Fuchs in Paris, the company began as a cutlery shop. In 1857, Émile Puiforcat registered the hallmark—a pocket knife with the initials E and P in a diamond—that certifies Puiforcat creations. Over two centuries, the House has upheld its legacy of sterling silver craftsmanship through a meticulous creative process.

Showstoppers

Puiforcat’s notable works span various eras and materials. Post-1945, the House expanded into new materials like porcelain and silver-plated metal, collaborating with artists such as Salvador Dali. Acquired by Groupe Hermès in 1993, Puiforcat honors its heritage by recreating classic designs and partnering with contemporary designers. Highlights from these remarkable collaborations include the exclusive Dinner Service by Donald Judd, a collection of plates, tumblers, serving bowls, and cups in silver, originally designed by the great artist in the late 1980s.
