Puiforcat
Silver and rosewood meet on the strength of contrast alone: one material conducts cold, the other warms to the hand, and Puiforcat sets them against each other with no transition to soften the join. The house’s Art Deco inheritance shows in the restraint — Jean Puiforcat’s early twentieth-century reforms stripped silverware of applied ornament in favour of geometry and proportion, letting the material’s own weight and reflectivity carry the design. Here that logic holds: the rosewood handle is functional rather than decorative, chosen for grip and warmth rather than flourish. Sterling silver of this gauge is raised and finished by hand, a slow process that rewards close inspection at the seams and curves rather than at a distance. Suited to a table where hardware and cutlery are already considered, not an afterthought reached for once the linen is laid.

Puiforcat’s signature style is rooted in the classical and Art Deco movements. Louis Victor Tabouret, who joined the family business in the late 19th century, drew inspiration from 16th and 17th-century royal silversmiths, enhancing the brand’s repertoire with elegant silver hollowware. In the mid-20th century, Jean Puiforcat revolutionized silverwork with his Art Deco designs, characterized by architectural lines and functional elegance, eschewing unnecessary ornamentation. This avant-garde approach continues to define Puiforcat’s aesthetic. Today, Puiforcat is celebrated for its blend of tradition and creativity, crafting the timeless classics of tomorrow while paying homage to its storied past.
