London Craft Week: Nada Debs

Stories News London Craft Week: Nada Debs

Celebrating London Craft week, we present “Contemporary Arabesque” by acclaimed Lebanese designer Nada Debs. An experiential journey into traditional craftsmanship & creativity.

Returning to the British capital for its eight edition, London Craft Week showcases “beyond luxury” creativity by bringing together established and emerging makers, designers, brands and galleries from around the world. We have been delighted to be included in this magic event and proud to introduce the exquisite work of Nada Debs.

Born in Lebanon, she grew up in Japan and graduated from the Rohde Island School of Design in the US: a cosmopolitan, prolific background that informs Nada’s ability to distil culture, craftsmanship and emotional resonance into her work. Her style, referred to as “Contemporary Arabesque”, blends influences from her Lebanese roots and her childhood in Japan as she magnifies oriental handicrafts with a slight addition of Japanese materials.

The exhibition at our Headquarters shed a light on Nada Debs’ work and practice. Visitors discovered her latest designsfurniture and accessories that reinterpret traditional marquetry – and learnt more about crafting techniques thanks to a very informative video and a selection of samples that reveal the process of marquetry from start to finish.

Nada Debs has been present to meet visitors and guests (by appointment) and gave a talk exploring how cultural influences shape craft and design. Talking about her journey of personal encounters, her commitment to elevate Middle Eastern design and keep regional crafts relevant today, Nada Debs also deep dived into one of her signature craft techniques: Marquetry Inlay.

London Craft Week has been taking place from the 9th to the 15th of May 2022.
