For Emmanuel Levet Stenne, a lamp is never just a light source but a small piece of architecture, its column of cast bronze or brass rising toward a shade of hand-carved alabaster, his pieces known for the way they let raw materials, stone, brass, blown glass, speak for themselves.
The Elytre Pendant takes its name from the hardened wing-cases that protect certain insects at rest, and here a sphere of blown glass becomes the fragile object of that same protective tension. In its gold iteration, Emmanuel Levet Stenne wraps the glass in polished brass with a protective varnish, the warm metal catching the light like the sheen of an insect’s carapace.
After perfecting his design skills at the ENSCI/Les Ateliers School, Emmanuel Levet joined designer Eric Schmitt’s famed studio and workshop. Emmanuel Levet Stenne debuted at the Carole Decombe Gallery in 2014 with his first collection in collaboration with the ceramist Isabelle Sicart. Since then, he has presented more solo collections of furniture and lighting.
