Valentine Rosi Mistou trained at the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and has built her practice around colour, light and material. Working in coloured earthenware, she assembles irregular fragments into abstract landscapes, from intimate panels to monumental frescoes, many shaped by a long attachment to dunes and sand. Presented by Galerie JAG, this unique buffet marks her first work on furniture. Its structure is made of stained and varnished chestnut, a wood with a strong, open grain long used for buffets and armoires in rural France. Against it, the earthenware fragments hold deep, saturated colour, each shifting slightly in tone as it catches the light. The piece becomes a medium in its own right, bringing the scale of a wall composition into a dining room or living space.
