Designed within the storied Parisian workshop of Goossens, the Foliage Candelabrum L continues a lineage that began in 1950, when goldsmith Robert Goossens started reimagining rock crystal, glass paste and gilded bronze as jewelry-like objects for the home. Coco Chanel became an early champion, and today, housed within the Chanel maison, that same alchemy of craft and glamour lives on in the Foliage Candelabrum L.
Standing tall enough to anchor a dining table on its own, the Foliage Candelabrum L branches into gilded brass leaves finished with a shining 24-carat gold bath, each arm cradling a candle included with the piece. Its scale makes it one of the collection’s most theatrical objects, a gilded thicket built for candlelit evenings.
Following their meeting in 1953, Gabrielle Chanel encouraged Robert Goossens to create his first decorative objects: a trio of gilded bronze lions supporting a rock crystal globe, followed by a water lily pedestal table and a table with a wheat sheaf base. These are now among Goossens’ most iconic creations. By entering the world of decorative arts, Goossens Paris demonstrated his ability to move from the scale of jewellery to that of furniture and art objects, using the same signature materials (gold-plated metal and rock crystals) and the same tools and techniques.
