La Bande De Lobi Candle Holders pair designer Pia Chevalier with Maison Intègre, the Ouagadougou-based house whose name translates to “House of the Honest” and whose collection honors the Lobi people of Burkina Faso, celebrated across West Africa for a rich tradition of metal and wood craftsmanship that Maison Intègre continues to draw upon in its own bronzework.
This set of three candle holders is cast in satin bronze entirely by hand from recycled metals, using the same ancestral lost-wax technique practiced by generations of Burkinabé bronzesmiths. Every piece carries subtle variations in shape and shade unique to its handmade nature, transforming a functional object into a small tribute to an enduring West African craft tradition.
Inspired by the shapes of customary and traditional objects from the West African cultural heritage, Maison Intègre creates original, imaginative designs. By revisiting the region’s traditional crafts and inviting designers and artists in the likes of François Champsaur to partake into a creative adventure, the ancestral know-how of bronze casting takes on a new life. Ambre spends most of her time in Burkina Faso as her relentless hands-on approach is crucial to the design and production of each piece. Her strong commitment to local artisanship, combined with an array of unique collaborations, is at the core of creating bronze objects that are utterly contemporary, yet exquisitely traditional.
