Founded by French designer Ambre Jarno in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, Maison Intègre revives the ancestral West African art of lost-wax bronze casting, working hand in hand with local Burkinabé bronzesmiths and recycled metals.
The Tôle Bench, designed by Marion Mailaender for Maison Intègre, is not just a bench. Part of the Tôle collection inspired by Mailaender’s trip to Ouagadougou, it takes up the undulating language of corrugated iron sheeting, the material she found stamped into the everyday architecture of Burkina Faso, and reworks it into a piece of sculptural seating.
Handcrafted in satin bronze from recycled metals, the bench’s rippling silhouette fits harmoniously with the Tôle Stool from the same collection, its rhythm born directly from the corrugated material that inspired it. Offering a presence that is both functional and sculptural, each bench is subtly unique, its shape and shade shifting gently from one to the next.
Inspired by the shapes of customary and traditional objects from the West African cultural heritage, Maison Intègre creates original, imaginative designs. By revisiting the region’s traditional crafts and inviting designers and artists in the likes of François Champsaur to partake into a creative adventure, the ancestral know-how of bronze casting takes on a new life. Ambre spends most of her time in Burkina Faso as her relentless hands-on approach is crucial to the design and production of each piece. Her strong commitment to local artisanship, combined with an array of unique collaborations, is at the core of creating bronze objects that are utterly contemporary, yet exquisitely traditional.
