Haymann Editions revives the French tradition of the “éditeur de mobilier”: a Paris house that does not design its own furniture, instead commissioning outside talents — among them Toni Grilo, Charles Kalpakian and the duo David & Nicolas — to create collections it then produces to exacting standards in noble materials, from Carrara marble to solid ash and hand-cut leather.
Franck carries forward Charles Kalpakian’s study of geometric intersections first explored with the Max sofa: a backrest that appears to slice cleanly through the seat, turning a simple armchair into an exercise in line and shadow. Built on ash armrests and a wood structure with a foam seat and back, this version is upholstered in Yarn Collective’s Regent fabric, the backrest in a deep Midnight tone against a smoky Fumé seat, with Griogio 2 wood armrests completing a palette as considered as its silhouette.
After working for many years in IT and retail, David Haymann switched to his secret passion: design. In 2012 he launched Haymann Editions, with the purpose of becoming an “éditeur de mobilier”, a very French notion of commissioning from a designer a collection of original furniture pieces and manufacture them. The first collection designed by Toni Grilo, a Brazilian designer based in Portugal, became an instant success. Since then, Haymann Editions has developed several new collaborations with an eclectic roaster of up and coming designers including the duo Dan Yeffet and Lucie Koldova, the Lebanese design studio David & Nicolas, Sebastien Herkner, and Charles Kalpakian.
