Hugo Drubay designs by first sculpting entirely in the digital realm, modelling the coral-like branches, bark and water ripples he finds in nature before 3D-printing the forms into moulds. A Villa Medici resident whose work now sits in the Mobilier National’s permanent collection, he treats each finished piece, whether cast in plaster or carved in wood, as a fossil of an idea that began as pure, weightless geometry on a screen.
Born from Drubay’s Villa Medici residency, the Medici Vase is cast in plaster and released in a limited edition of eight pieces per gold-plated finish, offered in yellow, champagne pink or white gold. Its form keeps the soft irregularity of hand-finished plaster beneath a precious metal skin, a dialogue between the rough and the refined that runs through all of Drubay’s work.
After studying interior architecture, design and visual communication in Paris at L’Ecole Bleue, Hugo Drubay worked with renowned artists, architects and decorators including Loris Gréaud, Théo Mercier, Didier Gomez and Jacques Garcia. He founded his art, design & interior architecture production studio in 2017. He won the National Furniture Award at the 2019 Design Parade. He directed and co-curated the group exhibition, ‘L’Exode au Clair de Terre’, at Pavillon de la Muette (June 2018). Hugo Drubay’ s designs are included in the collections of Mobilier National and of the Villa Noailles.
