Based in the Apuan Alps, Mmairo controls every step of production in-house, from quarry extraction to finished object, collaborating with international designers, architects and artists on furniture and objects.
“Serving is an action as intimate as caring for loved ones,” begins the story behind the Carlo Tray, designed by Matteo Cibic for Mmairo, the Carrara atelier whose name derives from the ancient Greek marmairo, meaning to shine. Cibic conceived the tray as an object of hospitality first and function second, its generous, solid marble presence built to hold a table’s attention as much as its contents.
Worked in Bianco Michelangelo, Nero Marquinia and Rosso Levanto marble with a smooth, polished finish, the tray plays black night against white ceremony across its surface, while its handles, purely ornamental rather than functional, exist simply to frame the piece like a picture. Every Carlo Tray is carved and finished entirely within Mmairo’s own workshops in the Apuan Alps.
MMairo designs and creates high quality marble objects in Carrara, the world’s marble capital, where they were established in 2016. The products are made using the highest quality marbles, hand finished by skilled local artisans and with a high market positioning.
