For Mmairo, the Carrara marble house that controls every stage of production in-house, Chiossi brings his signature zigzag mark, a recurring motif in his sculpture, into small-scale marble objects for daily use.
The Guggenheim Square Ashtray shares its philosophy with its round sibling, part of Michele Chiossi’s revival of the classic living-room accessory for Mmairo, but trades the circular form for sharper, more architectural angles. Chiossi, a sculptor who has worked in marble, bronze and resin across studios in Florence, New York and Milan, uses the square shape to underline the object’s role as a stylish container rather than a purely functional afterthought.
Carved from Nero Marquinia marble, with bespoke dimensions and finishes available upon request, the ashtray’s dark, near-black stone makes Chiossi’s signature zigzag detailing read as a bright flash of light cut into the surface rather than a soft mirrored gleam. As enduring as marble and as elegant as a concentric circle of smoke dissolving into air, the piece enhances any surface it sits on, exactly as Chiossi intended.
