Working exclusively in Carrara’s Bianco Carrara marble, Studioformart pairs rigorous, rational geometry with the material’s natural luminosity, treating the stone as the starting point for objects rather than the finishing touch to a shape already decided.

The Paletta Tray by Studioformart for Mmairo sits deliberately between two familiar objects, part chopping board and part serving tray, an ambiguity its designers consider central rather than accidental. Studioformart, the Carrara marble atelier founded in 2003 by Andrea and Simone Dell’Amico, designed the distinctive cut-out opening not as decoration but as a practical gesture: a place to rest a glass, tuck a napkin, or simply get a better grip on the piece while circulating through a room.

Carved from Bianco Carrara marble with a smooth, hand-finished surface, the Paletta Tray was made with cocktail parties and standing dinners in mind, its opening allowing a single hand to carry both the tray and a drink at once. As with every Mmairo piece, the marble is extracted, cut and finished entirely in-house in Carrara, so the same block’s veining runs consistently across the tray’s flat, generous surface, warmed by the material’s natural translucency.
