Water Lily Trinket Bowl

Robert Goossens built his reputation on a singular idea: that gilded metal, worked with the discipline of a goldsmith, could rival precious material in both weight and presence. Trained in the ornamental vocabulary of Byzantine and Renaissance jewellery, he brought that same rigour to objects for the table and the hand. This trinket bowl carries the water lily motif he returned to across his work — its petals hand-chased and overlapped so the metal appears to open rather than sit flat, each leaf catching light differently as it curves. The gilding, applied by the ateliers now housed within Chanel’s Le19M, is thick enough to hold its lustre for decades rather than wear thin. Small in scale but insistent in presence, it belongs on a console or dressing table where its surface can be seen up close, holding rings, keys, or simply catching the eye on its own.
