Olga Etc.
Named after the Japanese art of kokedama — the moss-wrapped root ball that lets a plant exist as sculpture, suspended from its own form rather than potted in soil — this piece translates that logic into porcelain. Virginie Boudsocq, working under the name Olga Etc., trained in fine arts and advertising before turning self-taught to ceramics, drawn to a material she describes as balancing realism against imperfection. The black surface is partially glazed by hand, left to break and pool unevenly across the porcelain so that matte and gloss meet without a fixed line between them — no two pieces share the same pattern. Boudsocq’s practice grew from tableware commissioned for the Hôtel de Crillon’s kitchens, and that instinct for objects that hold up under close, repeated use carries through here. Suited to a console or dining table where its irregularity can be read at close range.

Working in fine arts and advertising, Virginie Boudsocq found a new passion in ceramic and porcelain. A self-taught ceramist, she looks for the perfect balance between realism and imperfection that defines this fragile yet strong material. Her collection of one-of-a-kind dinnerware pieces stems from a chance encounter with the executive chef of the Crillon Hotel in Paris who was looking for new designs befitting the hotel’s gourmet restaurant. Since then, Virginie has created stunning collections for some of the most luxurious hotels in the world.
