Porcelain Vase Kokedama White

Named for the Japanese practice of suspending a plant’s root ball in a ball of moss, the piece carries that same sense of rooted lightness into porcelain. Virginie Boudsocq, working under the name Olga Etc., trained in fine arts and advertising before turning to ceramics, self-taught, building her practice on the tension between control and accident that the material demands. The partial glaze is left to pool and recede unevenly across the surface, so no two examples share quite the same map of matte and shine. Her collection took shape through work with the kitchens of the Hôtel de Crillon, and has since gone on to furnish tables in some of the world’s grand hotels. Sculptural on its own or holding a single stem, it suits a console, a bedside, or a table set for one gesture rather than many.
