Turned from a solid block of Nero Marquina, the vase carries the marble’s signature fine white veining across a dense, near-black ground — a stone quarried in the Basque region and prized for centuries for its depth of colour. Spanish designer Ivan Colominas, trained in industrial and transportation design, brings an engineer’s economy of form to the piece: a single unbroken volume, worked and polished by hand in Carrara, where Mmairo’s ateliers oversee every stage from block to finish. The result sits closer to sculpture than tableware, its weight and cool surface asking to be felt as much as seen. Available in two proportions, it holds its own on a console or dining table, equally suited to a single stem or left empty as an object in its own right.
