Italian designer Matteo Cibic has channelled his fascination with pareidolia, the instinct to find faces in everyday objects, into Homage, a collection created for Mmairo, the marble house founded in Carrara. Working from his Vicenza studio, Cibic treats each vase, tray and vessel as a small character rather than a static object, naming many pieces after the sculptors who shaped Carrara’s centuries-old marble tradition.
Tacca Tre Colori brings a third marble into the tribute to Florentine sculptor Pietro Tacca, adding Rosso Levanto to the Nero Marquinia and Bianco Michelangelo of the original. The extra colour softens the piece’s strict alternation into something more painterly, without losing the pure, uncomplicated delight Cibic built into the Tacca form. It remains, at heart, a small bet on luck, cast in stone rather than bronze.
