The Nasturtium Candle Holder L by Olga etc. carries the quiet poetry of Virginie Boudsocq, the French self-taught ceramicist who transformed a chance encounter with the Hôtel de Crillon’s executive chef into a porcelain house of her own. Boudsocq treats each piece as a small garden caught in clay, letting delicate botanical motifs and the natural imperfection of handwork tell a story of nostalgia and delicacy.
The larger of the Nasturtium pair, this candle holder carries the same partially glazed white porcelain base modelled on the flower, its raw and glazed surfaces meeting at the edge of each petal. Its more generous scale makes it a natural centrepiece rather than a supporting object on the table.
Working in fine arts and advertising, Virginie Boudsocq found a new passion in ceramic and porcelain. A self-taught ceramist, she looks for the perfect balance between realism and imperfection that defines this fragile yet strong material. Her collection of one-of-a-kind dinnerware pieces stems from a chance encounter with the executive chef of the Crillon Hotel in Paris who was looking for new designs befitting the hotel’s gourmet restaurant. Since then, Virginie has created stunning collections for some of the most luxurious hotels in the world.
