This collection, designed by Garcé & Dimofski for The Invisible Collection, does not reproduce Doucet’s furniture but reimagines his world, naming each piece after the writers, painters and collaborators who moved through his life and his two legendary studios on Avenue du Bois and rue Saint-James. It is a portrait of a collector assembled in furniture rather than facts.

The Apollinaire Coffee Table honours Guillaume Apollinaire, the poet and critic who helped steer Jacques Doucet’s collection toward the avant-garde and reportedly helped him acquire Picasso’s Les Demoiselles d’Avignon directly from the painter’s studio in 1924. Garcé & Dimofski give the table a dark, semi-glossy tinted chestnut base, a material choice grounded and serious enough to carry that weight of art history.

Set into the chestnut is a ceramic insert top in a colour called Beetle, its iridescent, faintly shifting surface echoing the shimmering, unstable colours the avant-garde painters in Doucet’s circle were exploring at exactly that moment. Bespoke woods, dimensions and colours are available, but the Beetle top remains the piece’s quiet signature.
