Part of Shorto’s Pojaji collection, the pattern reinterprets pojagi, the patchwork textiles of Korea traditionally pieced from silk scraps for weddings, Buddhist ceremonies, and everyday wrapping cloths — one of the few creative outlets available to women within a conservative culture. Shorto translates that patchwork logic into bold geometric blocks of colour, a rhythm that carries an unexpected kinship with Gio Ponti’s graphic optimism. It is a design leap typical of her practice: she began as a collector of antique textiles before training in art history at L’Ecole du Louvre, and built her eponymous studio on the belief that historic techniques deserve a contemporary voice. It suits interiors confident enough to let pattern take the lead, layered against solids or grouped with others from the same collection for a fuller patchwork effect.
