Maison Leleu was founded in 1910 by Jules Leleu, who went on to win the grand prize at the 1925 Exposition Internationale that gave Art Deco its name. The Narval Sideboard is part of the house’s ongoing re-edition project, led by great-granddaughter Alexia Leleu, drawing on a century-old archive of motifs never before produced.

Limited to eight signed and numbered pieces, the Narval sideboard translates a motif Jules Leleu once reserved for carved wood friezes into straw marquetry, its surface rimmed in bronze and its modular interior veneered in fine wood. Redrawn from a photograph in the maison’s own archive, where the original piece was worked in amboyna burl, it shows how Alexia Leleu treats the family’s history as raw material to be reinterpreted with techniques Jules himself never used.
