Phénix side tables designed by Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance reveal a subtle harmony between brutalism and voluptuousness, creating a sensation of weightlessness. Shaped by sharp edges, the pedestals of the Phénix tables accommodate the tops, balanced on their tops. Massive, the pedestals look as if they’ve just come out of the quarry, countered by the slender discs that counter their softness.
Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance is a French designer who explores a wide range of disciplines and materials, which merge into a distinctive body of work. Born in the south of France in 1974, he followed in his father’s footsteps, by studying sculpture at the École nationale supérieure des arts appliqués et des métiers d’art, then earning his design diploma at the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs. In addition to his spectacular private and commercial projects –including an iconic chalet in the Alps – Noé creates exceptional pieces of furniture in very limited editions. After discovering the breathtaking landscapes of Portugal and the country’s rich craft traditions, he has launched Made In Situ, a design studio that pays tribute to Portuguese storied artistry.
