Behind the Pouly II Side Table stands Sarah Chirazi, a Franco-Senegalese designer whose work reads like a multi-act scenography, drawing on the Art Deco furniture of her Dakar childhood, inherited Senegalese craft, and a wink of humor that surfaces in even her most classical forms.
The Pouly II side table shares its sibling’s origin story, cast from a genuine West African well pulley, but its slightly taller, narrower silhouette isolates the pulley’s central wheel as the star of the composition. Produced in a limited edition of twelve numbered pieces and two artist’s proofs in natural black bronze, it reads less like furniture and more like an artifact recovered from a well and repurposed as a plinth.
An advocate of eclecticism, Sarah moves effortlessly from a Haussmannian apartment to a clay mountain retreat in Morocco, adding her whimsical touch while ensuring respect for the spirit of the place. In her interiors, conceived as multi-act scenographies, she weaves unexpected dialogues between the 1940s and Senegalese craftsmanship, the extravagance of her personality, and the timelessness of French classicism.
