With the Ax Lamp, Sébastien Caporusso continues an ongoing dialogue between architecture and craft. The Brussels-based designer, celebrated as Designer of the Year at Belgium’s Biennale Interieur, approaches every piece as an exercise in noble, tactile materials — stone, marble, brass, bronze — shaped into eclectic, dreamlike forms that are as poetic as they are livable.
Suspended from an adjustable brass chain, the hanging light is formed of four raw, unglazed ceramic plaques, slightly curved and pieced together into a rounded shade. Each plaque is pierced through, letting slivers of light escape laterally and scatter across the room in a pattern that shifts as the fixture is raised or lowered.
