Sophie Dries by Kaia brings together a Paris- and Milan-based architect with Kaia, the atelier reinventing glass and papier-mâché as sculptural light. Dries approaches every object as she would a building: she thinks first in volumes, light and shadow, then lets artisanal materials carry the idea. The Glow collection, born from her sculptural Inner Glow piece and unveiled at Milan Design Week, distills that architectural instinct into intimate, luminous forms for the home.
The Glow 6 Rope Ceiling Lamp gathers six of these glowing forms into a single constellation, suspended from oiled and waxed brass stems available also in brushed nickel, aged brass or bronze-patinated brass. Clustered above a table or staircase, the quintet of glass-and-papier-mâché volumes reads like a small galaxy of hand-formed light, each sphere subtly different from its neighbors.
Before founding Kaia in 2013, Manuela Szewald worked as a tax lawyer for a financial institution in Frankfurt and London. It’s in 2010, whilst refurbishing her family’s holiday home – a hamlet of 300-year-old farmhouses- that she rediscovered her deep passion for interior design and the preservation of traditional craftsmanship.
